How Does Libya End?

“The first, the supreme, the most far-reaching act of judgment that the statesman and commander have to make is to establish . . . the kind of war on which they are embarking.”

Carl von Clausewitz, On War

Upon which kind of war are we embarking in Libya?  Have we answered Clausewitz’s question?  The answer would appear to be a resounding no.

“It’s time for Qaddafi to go.” – President Barack Obama

“Circumstances will drive where this goes” – CJCS Admiral Mike Mullen

“United States forces are conducting a limited and well-defined mission in support of international efforts to protect civilians and prevent a humanitarian disaster.” – President Barack Obama

“…a no-fly zone is not enough. There needs to be other efforts made.” – Senator John McCain

“all necessary measures … to protect civilians and civilian-populated areas under threat of attack.” – UNSC Resolution 1973

Here we go again…

as a retired E-4 with over 19 years TIG when i went over, i’ll hazard a wild ass guess and say “badly”.

the fact that Helen Keller could see this coming will not reduce the value of my prognostication since i can see what the entire Pentagon apparently can’t.

after all, if they did, at least one of them would have felt duty bound to resign in protest at such stupidity…. right?

It’s been a while since a G.O. resigned in protest, and certainly none have fallen on the sword over Lybia. However, a few years ago MG John Batiste declined his third star and retired so he could speak out against Rumsfeld and the conduct of Iraq.

There are still a few guys with balls out there.

      Thanks for the comment!
